WIC Community [

teacup9
wicparents is a new community specifically for posting about WIC (Woman, Infants, & Children nutritional program where qualified applicants can earn more than with food stamps.) We welcome anyone who has ever used WIC, may be interested in applying for WIC, and WIC employees. This is a place to talk about WIC experiences both positive and negative, exchange useful information with other WIC members, recipe ideas that call for two gallons of milk, a pound of cheese, two dozen eggs, and two 46 oz cans of juice, and more. We understand that WIC is very state specific and will try to tag entries appropriately.  So come join wicparents.

I've been a member for a little bit, but kept getting distracted when I started to fill this out. (New baby...you know how it is.)

Name: Anika/Nik
Your LJ Name: eternitywaiting
Birthdate: 1-17-84
Pregnant?: (y/n) nope
Your Children's names & Birthdays or EDD: Suzume Gaelle, 11-27-06 (she'll be six months on Sunday!)
What city do you live in: Baltimore
Are you a working mom or stay at home mom?: You missed one: Work at home. :-)
Married, Single or In a relationship mom?: Married, four years this August
How did you find mdmoms?: browsing
Did you read the rules?: yup
Questions/Comments or extra info about you and your children: Well, I have the most awesome baby ever, if I do say so myself. :-) She's nothing but smiles and giggles, is a crazy fast learner (she rolled over for the first time when she was 16 days old - seriously!), and has a huuuuuge personality.

I run a snowball stand here in the city, but since I have Suzu around now, I've passed the reigns of day-to-day supervision over to my mother, while I do the clerical stuff (plus, I'm designing our webpage right now). We're trying to open another location in Dundalk, and I'll be getting back into the meat of the business more as Suzu grows.

My husband Vince works as a supervisor for Best Buy, and is a fabulous daddy. We've been together since high school.

I'm waiting on one final grade to tell me whether or not I'm officially a college grad, as I had to take incompletes last Fall because baby girl wanted out a little bit early. I went to Towson for English Literature. (Yes, I am a nerd.)

All my mommy friends live in different states, so I'd love to get to know some people closer by!

And, a couple photos:Collapse )

I have tomorrow off from work. Any ideas for something to do in the Annapolis area with three young kids (4 and under)? I guess if I can't come up with anything else I'll be hitting the mall.

Beautiful Day for an Outing [

GSA - General Services Administration is hosting EARTH DAY activities and info today from 12-2 at the park on 18th 5-6 blocks south of Farragut West Metro. Snacky foods (ice cream, popcorn) and sidwalk chalk and other kid friendly things while the parents can pick up info, etc. For many kids the metro ride is fun enough. Other activities near there are the Corcoran and Sackler museums, White House etc.

I've quit my job and am starting the SAH adventure soon. Is anyone else doing this? Is this an appropriate community to post activities and such for SAH parents? I'd love to come up with free things to do in DC and MD with my kids this summer. I have a little list started. Is anyone interested?

Sierra's Service Project Idea [

Sierra's Service Project
Sierra and I sat down last night, and expanded on her SP (Service Project) a bit more, and I helped her to expand her idea a bit further. Instead of targeting foster children, she wants to do all children in need who are homeless, foster care, have little money, etc. I told her that she could help more children in need if she expanded it to a broader aspect. She still would like to distribute bookbags (says it is easier for kids to carry on backs instead of carrying them with handles or over the shoulder with one strap) filled with a teddybear/beanie baby (something they can cuddle), a bible (the small ones, express her belief in God), deck of cards (her favorite game to play),flashlight with a pair of extra batteries (emergency idea),coloring book/crayons (something for them to do),small simple first aid kit (bandaides, ointment cream, gauze pads, medical tape,etc),hairbrush/comb,bag of toietries (kid size of course),stationary to write letters, list of local Emergency #'s for the County we live in. I told her that we might have to downsize the bag items but for now this is what she would like to see her bags. She understands that it needs to be gender neutral so either a little boy or girl would get the bag and that we could not make bags for girls, bags for boys as it would save time, and space!

I am planning on contacting the following places to see if this would be an interest for them:

-Help Center
-Social Services
-WIC
-Emergency Room at the Hospital
-Local Dr.'s office I know where low income kids go
-Homefront Christian Outreach (friends organization she runs, get lots of kids in need)

She is also trying to think of a name. She would love to include her first name or something. Her name is Sierra, initals are SAK. Her SP is around Kids in Need, filling Booksbags for those children. Any ideas let me know and I will pass them along to her. She is even going to handwrite notes to go in the bags!

But I am so proud of her for doing this! Such a huge heart.
